Forg1ven’s League of Legends career threatened by mandatory military service
All throughout history masses have often rallied behind people who were openly against war and mandatory military service. Cassius Clay or Muhammad Ali, the man who many boxing history was such a person. The already famous boxer made history once more by refusing to be drafted into the Army in order to be sent to fight in the Vietnam War. On April 28, 1967 Ali refused to be drafted by simply saying “I ain’t got no quarrel with those Vietcong”. Ali was sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of $10000 and was also banned from boxing for the next 3 years. He was kept out of prison though when his legal team appealed the case and the Court kept on being pressured by thousands of supporters.
We are taught that those who learn nothing from history are bound to repeat it. I told you this story because at this time, Konstantinos “Forg1ven” Tzortziou announced live while being interviewed in connection with the current EU LCS that he needs to abandon his competitive League of Legends team, the notorious H2K, in order to return to his native Greece for mandatory military service. Forg1ven has been a rising and promising star in competitive League of Legends for the past 3 years. He is without a doubt one of the most valuable European players.
His military service will greatly damage his career, maybe even ruin it, it will ruin H2K’s chances and will also have a huge impact on the European sector of eSports.
A petition has been started by the League of Legends community in order to appeal Forg1ven’s case and maybe get him out this.
To: Prime Minister of Greece, Minister for National Defence
please free Konstantinos “FORG1VEN” Tzortziou, one of Europe’s best competitive players in League of Legends, from military service in Greece, or delay the military service until the end of his career. It would have an impact on not just competitive League of Legends or his team H2K Gaming, but also for his ongoing career as a professional athlete.
