Dota 2 6.87 Patch Brings Massive Changes

The patch notes for Dota 2’s long-awaited 6.87 patch have been released, and they are full of major changes to the game, with everything from base hero health to brand new items. As expected, the patch nerfed a lot of currently popular heroes such as Invoker and Outworld Destroyer, while buffing many others.

We can expect a completely new meta to develop as soon as the patch hits the live servers. We’ve summarized the most important changes below:

Ranked All Pick reworked:

  • Before the picking phase begins, there is a 15 second voting phase to ban heroes. Each player votes for a different hero. Afterwards, half of the heroes that were voted on will be randomly selected and banned

Scan Ability added to minimap UI:

  • Scans a targeted 900 AoE for 8 seconds, indicating whether there are enemy heroes in that area during the 8 seconds. Similar to the Glyph of Fortification, the Scan can be used once by anyone on the team, and has a 4.5 minute cooldown

Hero attribute changes:

  • Starting HP from 180 to 200, Hero base mana increased from 0 to 50, HP per strength increased from 19 to 20, Mana per int reduced from 13 to 12, Intelligence now increases your spell damage by 1% per 16 Intelligence points

7 New Items:


  • Requires: Orchid (4075)Crystalys (2120)Recipe (1000)Total: 7195
  • Provides:+ 25 Intelligence+ 30 Attack Speed+ 60 Damage+ 150% Mana Regeneration
  • Active: All attacks on the silenced target, including from allies, gain True Strike and a 1.35x critical hit (11 sec cooldown)
  • Passive: Grants a chance to land a critical hit

Hero Changes:

Dozens of heroes were rebalanced, or had new Aghanim’s Scepter effects added. The biggest changes are:

  • Invoker nerfed: Ghost Walk longer cooldown, lower base intelligence, Tornado vision lowered
  • Outworld Destroyer nerfed: Arcane Orb mana cost increased, Int steal reduced, Astral Imprisonment cast range reduced
  • Spectre nerfed: agility gain from 2.2 to 1.8, Haunt cooldown from 120 to 140/130/120, Haunt illusions stunnable, Spectral Dagger doesn’t go through spell immunity
  • Zeus nerfed: Static Field damage reduced from 5/7/9/11% to 4/6/8/10% and doesn’t stop Blink Dagger, Thundergod’s Wrath damage reduced from 225/350/475 to 225/325/425
  • Riki buffed: Blink Strike damage increased and ultimate cooldown/cast point improved
  • Earthshaker Aghanim’s Scepter reworked: Enchant Totem becomes a 900 range ground target ability. Causes you to jump in the air and land at the target spot, casting enchant totem there. Self casting the ability will make it behave in the original form, without jumping
  • Arc Warden reworked: Spark Wraith costs less and purges, Tempest Double no longer resets item cooldowns and can’t copy Gem and Divine Rapier, Flux slow nerfed, Magnetic Field buffed
  • Kunkka Buffed: higher base armor, lower Torrent mana cost
  • Lifestealer buffed: strength gain from 2.4 to 3
  • Luna buffed:  agility gain from 2.8 to 3.3
  • Rubick buffed
  • Treant Protector buffed
  • Warlock buffed
  • Weaver buffed


  • Balance changes to many existing items
  • Numerous terrain changes
  • Creep gold and aggro reworked
  • Neutral creeps changed
  • Towers provide armor aura to allied heroes
