DreamHack Coming To The United States
DreamHack, the world’s largest digital festival consisting of live concerts and competitions in digital arts and esports held in Europe, is coming to the United States this May. The first ever major outside of Europe is expected to take place May 6th-8th in Austin, Texas.
DreamHack CEO Marcus Lindmark stated:”DreamHack is a global phenomenon and our esports tournaments already have hundreds of millions of viewers around the globe, with the United States always being the country having the most viewership. It’s been our ambition to expand to North America for a very long time, and today we are thrilled to get the ball rolling by announcing a date and venue for our first event. It’s our ambition to host a second event in another region of North America in 2016 as well, we are very excited to keep ramping things up.”
The North American event will host all of the events that make DreamHack world famous, including the LAN party that has become the main attraction through the years.
Also included will be the BYOC, bring your own computer, tournaments. The prize pool for the tournaments will be over $1,000,000 spread across a variety of titles which have not yet been announced, though we can assume that all of the big titles will be there.
Also mentioned was the Expo. During this portion, major brands from all over the world showcase their latest and greatest initiatives, including the brand new Indie Expo. This is DreamHack’s newest addition, and it is quickly becoming one of its most popular. Indie games have taken the world by storm recently, so big announcements are expected at the US installment.
Early bird tickets are promised to go on sale in mid September.
