ESL One Manila: Fnatic and Liquid enter Semifinals, Empire crushes Secret

The first day of the ESL One Manila Dota 2 tournament in Philippines’ capital city saw 8 teams battle in the group stage in a best-of-three format. Group A consists of Team Liquid, China’s Wings Gaming, NA’s Complexity and Philippines’ own team Mineski.

Group B, on the other hand, includes Fnatic, Team Empire, EHOME and Secret. So far, only Liquid and Fnatic have secured their place in the semifinals, after going 2-0 in the group stage. The other 6 teams all have a chance to secure the remaining 2 semifinal spots tomorrow.

Group A Results

Team Liquid started off with an expected 2-0 over the hometown team Mineski. They also went 2-0 over one of China’s lesser known Dota 2 teams, Wings. Winning both series instantly secured them a semifinal spot.

Complexity dominated their first game against Wings and looked like they would sweep with a fast 2:0, but Wings mounted a comeback thanks to their Alchemist getting farmed up. In game 3, Wings outplayed Complexity, with their Invoker picking up 21 kills and only 1 death.

Complexity and Mineski still have a chance to go to the semifinals tommorow when they play against each other, and the winner plays against Wings.

Group B Results

In group B, Fnatic started things off with a dominating performance over Empire and EHOME, defeating both 2:0.

The biggest surprise, however, was Empire’s 2:0 victory over Team Secret, who just recently reshuffled their roster. Despite their star-studded team consisting of EG refugees Arteezy and Universe, along with Puppey, EternalEnvy and Pieliedie, Secret got completely demolished by Empire’s all-Russian squad. Empire’s carry ‘Ramzes’ dominated both games on Spectre.

Secret and EHOME will play against each other tomorrow, to see who gets to play Empire for the second semifinal spot.

Be sure to catch all the action at the official ESL stream, including past VODs.
