Rick Fox and team Echo Fox expand into CS:GO

In December a new MGO entered the playing field in North America and the CS:GO Competitive Gaming landscape was changed  by the announcement of a new team entering the arena, team Echo Fox. What was interesting about it was the fact that the owner of the team is former NBA player turned actor Rick Fox who bought the team for $1000.000. This just goes to shows the dimension of eSports and the attraction it represents to unconventional investors.

Team Echo Fox is a League of Legends team that plays in the NA LCS. As things in eSports are moving really fast Rick Fox has now announced that they are expanding into CS:GO. This is what he had to say to ESPN:

My vision for Echo Fox has always been much larger than League of Legends. League is clearly a key component and a great starting point as the most played PC game in the world, but I am building what I intend to be the preeminent eSports empire.

Given my desire to have one of the leading franchises in Turner’s ELEAGUE, I have spent the past several months putting together the best team possible.

Echo Fox CS:GO will be lead by Mohamad “moE” Assad and Sean “sgares” Gares (ex-captain of Cloud9). Trey “tck” Martin, Armeen “a2z” Toussi and Ronnie “ryx” Bylicki stepped up to the plate and filled the team’s roster.

Fox said this for ESPN:

The team we signed is led by some of the top players in the game. m0E is a household name in the CS:GO community and has over 500,000 followers on Twitch. sgares led his team to a first-place finish in the IBuyPower Cup last year and was rated as the best in-game leader in North America. I know these two, as well as the others, were all being courted by other top teams. We are excited to have them as part of the Echo Fox family and expect to do big things together.

When “sgares” left Cloud9 his departure literally shook the CS:GO community  as he will always be known as one of the greatest shot-caller and game coordinator in the field.

In talks since CES 2016, it appears that Rick Fox used his strict professional approach and relies heavily on Assad’s knowledge to establish the team and the new brand. Fox is extremely confident in the future success of the team they put together and this comes as no surprise as he has already proved over and over that he actually has a certain “feel” for the field even though relatively new to eSports.  His own experience as a professional athlete clearly gives him an objective perspective on the industry and its dynamics:

There were losing environments and winning environments. I know what they look like, I know what they smell like, and I know how to help individuals go to another level.

That’s what we’re going to be about.

moE’s announcement:

Today I am proud to announce that I have partnered with an organization that shares the same ideologies as me and is just as adamant about growing my personal brand as much as their own. I will be joining Echo Fox. This organization will make sure the team I built will have all the resources needed to succeed.

It is absolutely amazing to see eSports grow at such a fast pace with investors becoming more and more interested in the opportunities that present themselves. More teams equals more competintion and more competition equals great entertainment for gaming fans, I said it before and I will say it again, 2016 is an awesome year for gaming!
